Why Mentoring
As Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me I forget, Teach me I may remember, involve me and I will learn.”
You are the change maker. You share your experiences and help others create their own. You don’t play with rules as you can adapt to any situation. You see challenges rather than problems. Your positive approach to any problem will only create hope inside your mentee.
A very noble task, indeed.
Mentoring is a two-way street. It gives you an immense sense of satisfaction since learning is mutual. As you and your mentee work closely on a problem, you reapply your strategies and guide them throughout. You help them see a bigger picture and end up discovering a new one yourself. You both create a win-win situation there. And you may even create and nurture a bunch of good lifetime relationships too.
You have a direct influence on your mentee’s professional or personal lives. When someone trusts you with their life, that’s a huge responsibility for you and you are nothing less than a superhero!

What experts say about mentoring?
Mentoring is an Art, where the Mentee is a Beautiful picture waiting to become a masterpiece by the Artist (mentor) with colors and textures (experience and guidance). Mentoring is as noble as teaching, except that mentoring is based on real-time experiences and examples.
We often get inspired by great people, but hardly we realise that its the mentors working behind these ‘once ordinary people’, mentoring them to achieve the greatness. You would not be having the half bitten apple on back of your phone if its not for such mentors and their mentorship. And that is the unsung power and influence mentorship can have on this world.
It’s a ‘give and take’ relationship. There is always something to share from the knowledge acquired and something to learn from the new age thought-process.
Mentorship is a fully loaded word. It comprises several aspects of physical and mental relationships. I’ve been mentored; and have mentored several colleagues, friends, students, and family members in my 20 years of professional development. As a credentialed project manager who has served in IT, Higher Education, Construction Management, and Concert Production I spend every day in a mentorship relationship of some kind.
Mentoring is a double-edged sword. A mentor who connects with “you” as a person can change your life while the one who connects with you as a “resource” will bring no change. The key lies in choosing the right one.
Mentoring has helped shape my career in such a way that I am proud of what I am today. It helped me see a bigger picture and thus bring out the best of my abilities. I have seen a lot of people living in regrets about that one bad life decision, that one wrong career path, or a misguided area of study. I believe experience is the best teacher and mentoring is all about experiences.
